The idea of fame has changed because of the way digital technology has developed over the last twenty years. Technology has definitely made fame more accessible.  The traditional gateways to fame still exist, but digital technology has provided a different way to enter the mass media’s public sphere. Digital technology easily competes with print media, terrestrial radio, and commercial television, which demonstrates the power of digital media.   

Digital media has completely changed the way people attain fame.  The idea of fame, celebrity, and public notoriety has become democratized through the availability of independent digital media platforms.  People are continuously learning how to maneuver in the world of digital media and fame, which is another reason why so many mistakes are being made.

Prior to early 2020, mainstream celebrities regularly mocked people who acquired fame by using digital technology.  Traditional celebrities realize that the world has changed around them. That is why so many middle-aged and older celebrities from the Pre-Digital Era are integrating themselves with digital technology like never before.  Traditional media platforms think they have an exclusive claim over digital platforms and their content.  Digital media platforms are fairly new creations, which is why so many people make mistakes with digital media.
